Mountain Lodges of Peru: Trekking in the Andes to Machu Picchu

If ever we’ve understood the merits of less-crowdy travel, this might be the year and a trek in the Andes just might be the trip. Here’s some of what’s on offer from Mountain Lodges of Peru.

Mountain Lodges of Peru operates spectacular Peruvian adventures, mostly lodge-to-lodge trekking trips that follow various routes across Andean valleys and corridors with breathtaking views, glorious mountain peaks, ancient archeological sites, and the mountaintop citadel of Machu Picchu as prizes.

Trips typically begin in the ancient Andean city of Cusco — a destination in and of itself. You can ask MLP about extra costs for extending your trip to include more time in and around Cusco. Here’s are sample of what’s on offer, but MLP has more tour versions and options to consider:

The Sacred Valley and Lares Trek Adventure to Machu Picchu

Trekking across Andean valleys on a 5-day or 7-day adventure that will take you thru Peru’s renowned Sacred Valley of the Incas along the Lares route and beyond, with the ultimate destination of Machu Picchu. Alongside daily trekking in spectacular geography, there are “cultural excursion options” to choose from. Ask MLP about these options or to ask how to design and customize your unique journey.

The Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu
A fully-guided, breathtakingly beautiful lodge-to-lodge trek along the Salkantay Trail to Machu Picchu. You trek between spectacular Andean peaks, get up close and personal with Mount Salkantay, ascend the 15,000-foot/4,500-metre mountain pass, and journey along rolling hills, dramatic boulder fields, cloud-forests and “12 other diverse bio-zones that comprise the Andean highlands.”

The Grand Andean Experience
This uniquely designed 10-day adventure to Machu Picchu combines the Sacred Valley and Lares Adventure AND the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu. A MLP guided 7-day, lodge-to-lodge trek to Machu Picchu that allows for more time to explore the renowned Sacred Valley as well as additional “cultural excursion options”— contact MLP for details.
